Record Breaking Evening in Kilkeel!
As part of the 11th night celebrations in Kilkeel a few ISA members took part in a series of record breaking challenges. First was the 53KG dumbbell press. The current Amateur record was 11 reps and this was challenged by Gareth Quinn of Co. Down and Josh Smith of Co. Armagh. Both men put up a good fight with Josh pressing 3 reps and Gareth gaining 7 repetitions. After this the 2 times Ireland Strongest Man Jonathan Kelly of Co.Antirm attempted to break the 57 second hold of a 1300KG car. Jonathan put everything into this challenge but fell short with 52.51. The next challenge was completed by Josh and Gareth, the Husafelt Stone Carry. The Amateur record was 56 metres and this was destroyed by Gareth Quinn with a massive 60m. Josh carried a respectful 22 metres. The final challenge was the keber was distance. The record to beat was 12 ft 9 in by the 6 time Highland Warrior champion Jonathan Kelly. However, Jonathan managed 11ft 9 inches. To finish the event the children took part in tug of war with the strongmen and were able to get a fell of what the sport is about. Thank you to Kilkeel and the organisers of this event for inviting the ISA and we hope to see ypu at an Ultimate Strongman Event near you. Tickets at www.ultimatestrongman.tv
