For this years 95 &110 KG Ireland Strongest Man 2016 the fans and competitors could not have asked for better weather with the sun shining.  The tension was high with the two defending champions attempting to defend their titles.  There was 9 competitors from all over Ireland.  Matthew Costello had a huge support being in his home county.  The first event was the duck walk for distance.  It is 200KG of pain dangling between your legs.  The 95KG champion, Angelo Iannetta only walked 21.91 metres.  Not a good start for the champion.  However, it was Matthew Costello who bombed out of the blocks up the course and got 40 metres but the 110 KG champion Ivan Ganon could not balance himself over the line and had to share the points with Matthew.  The second event was the axle for reps.  This event was seen in this years UK Strongest Man.  It weighed 117KG.  This saw Angelo Iannetta and Dean Doyle get 3 reps but Ivan Gannon showed his showed strength by getting 4 reps.

The third event was the truck pull.  It weighed in excess of 7.5 tonne.  It proved to be a tough event for these light competitors.  Dean Kennedy stormed over the tough gradient and gained a time of 32.44 but again Ivan Gannon showed his class winning the event with 32.03.  The forth event was the car deadlift.  This weighed 250 KG on the handles.  There were a number of strong dead-lifters in the line up. This saw Kieran Neary and Matthew Costello pull 11 reps to continue their consistency.  Angelo Iannetta got 16 reps and Ivan Gannon kept his 100% record of wins.  The last event was the stones of strength.  The fan favourite.  Going into this event there was 2 points splitting the leaders for the 95KG class.  This saw Angelo Iannetta and Dean Doyle get 5 reps of the 145 KG stone to put pressure on the leaders but it was Kieran Neary, Matthew Costello and Ivan Gannon who split the point as all of them got 6 reps.   It came down to the wire but Kieran Neary of Co. Mayo lifted the Warriors cup and his first Finn McCool trophy.  Ivan Gannon lifted his second consecutive 110KG class title.  This was truly a remarkable show by the ISA and they would like to thank all the sponsors who made the event possible.  We will see you at the next ISA event near you!
